Trail Jewelry is based on a love of the outdoors. Most of Wiretamers Trail Jewelry has been made from discarded items found along trails. There are two basic types of Trail Jewelry: Trail Glass and Trail Trash. Trail glass jewelry is made from broken glass found along trails. This glass has been tumbled in our studio to eliminate sharp edges and give the glass a frosted appearance like that of sea glass. The tumbled glass is incorporated into jewelry, usually by wrapping with wire: copper, sterling silver, and/or brass. Trail Trash jewelry takes many different forms, but usually involves items found along trails that are cleaned/prepared and used to create unusual yet beautiful necklaces, earrings and bracelets by combining them with copper, sterling silver, and/or brass wire, beads and chain. Examples of these found items include bottle tops, aluminum cans and miscellaneous bits and pieces of metal and plastic. By collecting and repurposing these items it helps to clean the outdoors from paved urban walking paths to back country hiking trails and everything in between. Not only does it help to clean up the natural spaces but also to keep many items out of our landfills. When you purchase these items, you know that you are playing an important part in the process of creating clean, beautiful trails for many years to come as well as owning a fun and versatile example of trail art that is a sure conversation starter!
